Dympna (Farrell) Bowles, 92, Longtime New Rochelle Resident

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Dympna (Farrell) Bowles, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died peacefully Saturday, Aug. 1, in Lawrenceville, N.J., at the age of 92.

She was born Aug. 15, 1922, to Thomas and Margaret (Hanley) Farrell and grew up in Bective, County Meath. She moved to Belfast, Northern Ireland, where she met Edward Bowles. They married in 1947 and immigrated to New York in 1957.

She worked in Macy's in New Rochelle and was very active in St. Gabriel Parish and school activities. In her later years, she was also a member of the Ladies Guild of Holy Family Parish and volunteered at the senior center, sharing her knitting skills and Irish heritage.

Her husband died in 2010.

She is survived by her six children: Mary Curtis, Dympna Bowles (Donal Farley), Colette Breen (Barry), Angela McNaughton (Lawrence), Eamonn Bowles (Jacqueline McGowan) and Sheila Regan (Michael); 16 grandchildren: Finbarr Curtis, Elizabeth Marsh (Christopher) and Patrick Curtis; Julia Wall (Patrick), Glynnis Breen and Brendan Breen (Jamie Jacobson); Christopher McNaughton, Eamonn McNaughton (Sarah), Brigid Goslin (Patrick), and Colin McNaughton; Christine, Laura and Claire Bowles; Madeleine, Mic and Caroline Regan; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Nora Regan, a son-in-law, Gregory Curtis, and 13 brothers and sisters in Ireland.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, at 10:30 at Holy Family Church, New Rochelle. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
