NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. Daniel A. Samela, Ph. D., a former longtime resident of New Rochelle, died Aug. 25. He was 77.
Samela was born July 6, 1935, in New Rochelle to Daniel A. Sr. and Marion LePore Samela. He worked for Envior Voraxial Technology in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. A civil and mechanical engineer, Samela worked on the Lunar Excursion Module project at NASA while working at Northrop-Grumman.
He held a professional engineer license and was an adjunct professor at Columbia University. He married Carol Ann Paolucci in 1955.
Samela is survived by his wife; a son, Daniel; a daughter-law, Patti; and a granddaughter.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday and Monday at Lloyd Maxcy and Sons Beauchamp Chapel in New Rochelle. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emil Paolucci Scholarship Fund.
