David Halsey Young, 87, Of New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- David Halsey Young, a resident of New Rochelle, died Saturday, Jan. 23. He was 87.

He was born in New Rochelle on Oct. 14, 1928, to Walter Halsey and Lola (Robinson) Young.

He grew up in New Rochelle, and then received his bachelor's degree from Williams College in Massachusetts. 

Upon graduating from college he began farming in Aquebogue, Long Island on a farm that had been in the Young family since the early 1650s. In the late 1950s he sold the farm on Long Island and purchased a farm in Gabriels, N.Y., which he farmed until the early 1980s. Upon retirement from farming he built a home overlooking the ocean in Sable River, Nova Scotia.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Daly, four of his daughters Karen Y. Cooney (Richard) of Syracuse, N.Y.; Martha A. Roblee (Alan) of Columbia, S.C.; Pamela L. Young (Steven Cotts) of Greenfield Center, N.Y. ;and Wendy A. Young (Juan Osuna) of Falls Church, Va.; a sister Doris O’Brien of New Rochelle and three grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia L. Young, his brother James A. Young and a sister Barbara Y. Hulse.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date at his home in Sable River. 

The family requests that donations be made to Hope for Wildlife, an organization based in Seaworth, Nova Scotia, that rehabilitates injured wildlife. Donations can be made online.
