Betty Rosett Hollender, New Rochelle Resident

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Betty Rosett Hollender was a teacher, children's book author, community leader, beloved mother of seven and wife of the late Herbert Hollender.

A resident of New Rochelle for over 70 years, she taught in the public schools, served as a member of the United Way Board, and participated in local politics. For years, she shared the traditions and values of her Jewish Heritage as a teacher at Temple Israel's Religious School, and contributed her time and energy to interfaith causes. Her books Bible Stories for Little Children, written in rhyme, were enjoyed by generations of young children.

The funeral will be Thursday, Aug. 20, 10 a.m. at Temple Israel of New Rochelle with a graveside ceremony following. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Temple Israel Sisterhood or local United Way.
