Apostle O’Dell Lyerly, DD, 89, Of New Rochelle, Founder, Bible Way Church

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.  - Apostle O'Dell Lyerly, DD, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died Dec. 25. He was 89.

Lyerly was born Oct. 23, 1924, to Arthur H. and Daisy (Moss) Lyerly in Salisbury, N.C., where he graduated the public schools and then attained a Doctor of Divinity Degree and founded the Bible Way Church of New Rochelle.

Lyerly is survived by his wife, Jean M. Hobby (Lyerly); children, Brenda Lyerly-Showell of Gwynn Oak, Md., Mark A. Lyerly (Maira), Pastor David A. Lyerly (Maxine) of New Rochelle and Larry O. Lyerly (Anne) of Norwalk; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters, Tammie Walker, Costella Watson, Wanda Raysor, Cranor Robinson and Omega Williamson; and brother, Arthur, Jr.

Body to lie in state at the church, 592 Main St., New Rochelle Thursday, Jan. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m.  Calling hours are Friday, Jan. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church; funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be Saturday (morning), Jan. 3 at Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale.
