What's Happening in New Rochelle This Weekend

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Memorial Day grave decorations, a parade and other festivities are some of the events planned for the long holiday weekend.

Friday, May 25

Senior Benefits Information Center: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Assistance in identifying benefits, such as Medicare health and prescription,  food stamps, HEAP, EPIC, weatherization, minor home repairs, tax-relief  programs and others is available in the New Rochelle Public Library’s new information center. Trained volunteers provide free, confidential one-on-one  counseling and access to print and online materials. BTOP Help Center, second floor, New Rochelle Public Library, One Library Plaza.

Saturday, May 26

Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library Book Store: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The organization has its bi-weekly book sale in the back of the first floor of the library. Books and other items wil be for sale. NewRochelle Public Library, One Library Plaza.

Sunday, May 27

Decoration of Graves at Holy Sepulchre, Beechwood cemeteries: 9 a.m. This event begins with a ceremony at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. It will be followed by the replacement of flags on the graves of soldiers and veterans at both locations All are invited to participate. Beechwood Cemetery, 179 Beechwood Ave. Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 66 Highland Ave.

Monday, May 28

New Rochelle Memorial Day parade and other festivities: 10:30 a.m. Join the United Veterans Memorial and Patriotic Association as it remembers veterans, with a ceremony at Memorial Plaza. This will be followed by a parade and procession to Hudson Park via Huguenot Street, North Avenue and Pelham Road where a waterfront ceremony honoring those lost at sea will be held. There will also be a special salute to Veterans of the War on Terrorism. The parade features officers from the New Rochelle Police Department. New Rochelle Fire Department, active duty Marines and sailors from Fleet Week. The New Rochelle High School band, trinity school bands, various other schools and civic groups, and every branch of the military will be participating. Many special surprises are expected. The public is invited to line the sidewalks and fall in behind the parade and join the procession to the park. Memorial Plaza-Hudson Park. The waterfront Ceremony will be followed by a “Picnicin the Park” with $1 menu from AJ’s Burgers, Pronto Pizza, and the UVMPA. There will be live music all afternoon at the Hudson Park Bandshell featuring the USO Liberty Bells and New Rochelle’s own West Enders and Third Stone bands, with emcee Dennis Nardone and jazz singer Joan Crowe.Crafts, games, and more will be available. Memorial Plaza - Memorial Highway and Main Street. Hudson Park, 83 Hudson Park Road. The ceremony and concert will be in the Monroe College Athletic Facility at New Roc City in case of rain.
