What's Happening in New Rochelle This Weekend

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The conclusion of kindergarten registration, a Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library bookstore, and school open house are some of the events planned for the weekend.

Friday, March 23

• Kindergarten registration for new students to Columbus, Davis, Jefferson, Trinity and Ward elementary schools.

• Columbus Elementary School holds International Food Night - 6 p.m. at the school, 275 Washington Ave. The event features a variety of international food.

Saturday, March 24

• The Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library Bookstore -10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the back of the first floor of the library. The store offers a variety of books in different genres at bargain prices. New Rochelle Public Library, One Library Plaza.

• Iona College free taxpayer assistance program - 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Iona College senior accounting majors will be available in the Hagan Lab in Hagan Hall to help people prepare their federal and New York state tax returns. The program is free and open to low- to moderate-income residents. For information call William Bottiglieri in the accounting department at (914) 633-2267.

Sunday, March 25

• Thornton-Donovan School Open House for summer offerings - 2 to 4 p.m. The Thornton-Donovan School holds an open house to tell the community about its summer offerings, including its Summer Challenge Day Camp and Summer School. Thornton-Donovan School, 100 Overlook Circle.

• Iona College Alumnae Spa Day - 1 to 5 p.m. The Iona College Office of Alumni Relations hosts a spa day in the Hynes Athletic Center. Participants can enjoy massages, manicures, mini facials, makeup applications and consultations, and more. The event includes a wine tasting sponsored by AOC Fine Wines, and hors d'oeuvres. CardiacScan Imaging sponsored by Sound Shore Medical Center – a $300 value – will also be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call Tsahai Amazan at (914) 633-2390 to register and schedule the CardiacScan. Mini Stress Management Workshops presented by Registered Nurse Wendy Packer will be offered as a new feature to this year’s program. Packer will also have her book "Are You in a Caregiving Relationship and Don't Know It?" available. The event is $50 per person, all-inclusive. Interested people are encouraged to register as soon as possible as space is limited.
