What's Happening Around New Rochelle This Week

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Here’s a look at events happening around New Rochelle this week, including government meetings and community happenings. See our events listings for more events.

Monday, March 12

The movie I Don’t Know How She Does It, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, will be shown at 1 p.m. at the Hugh A. Doyle Senior Center. The event is part of the center’s weekly “Monday Video” offering.

Tuesday, March 13

The New Rochelle School Board holds the second of three budget review sessions at 7 p.m. in the New Rochelle High School library. Aspects of the budget regarding elementary and secondary education, pupil services, medical services, guidance and special education will be discussed by the board and members of the community.

The New Rochelle City Council meets in a committee of the whole session beginning at 3:45 in the City Hall conference room to discuss a variety of items. A public hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers.

The Historical and Landmarks Review Board meets in City Hall Annex Room B-1 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss a variety of applications regarding historical property throughout the Queen City of the Sound.

Wednesday, March 14

All elementary schools in the New Rochelle School District have a half-day for parent-teacher conferences.

Thursday, March 15

An Iona College community meeting between the school and city takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the City Hall conference room. Both parties are working together to continue a strong relationship and find the best possible solution for the school and surrounding community regarding the college’s need for more student housing.

Jefferson Elementary School hosts “Family Night” at 7 p.m. as part of its annual monthlong Spring Book Fair. The event features a multicultural performance by children's storyteller Lou Del Bianco called "Around the World." Bianco will adapt folk stories from several cultures and bring them to life. The performance will incorporate music and be interactive, as students are called up on stage to help act out the stories. 

Nella Caggiano visits the library at 10:30 a.m. at the Hugh A. Doyle Senior Center for a "Get Your Plate in Shape: Strategies for Managing your Weight" workshop offering ways to maintain a healthy weight.

Friday March 16

The League of Women Voters of New Rochelle holds is monthly coffee-and-conversation event from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the meeting room of the New Rochelle Public Library. City Historian Barbara Davis will give a slide presentation, “Unsung Heroines of New Rochelle,” about women and their impact on the Queen City of the Sound. The event is being held in honor of Women’s History Month. Complimentary coffee and light breakfast refreshments will be served. Call 914-632-8254 for more information.
