Westchester Habitat Receives Sustainability Award

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Habitat for Humanity of Westchester was recently awarded a the 2011 sustainability award from Nissan USA for their work with helping keep the environment clean.

The car company approached Habitat for Humanity after wanting to donate to organizations that practice green initiatives according to Habitat for Humanity of Westchester Executive Director Jim Killoran.

“It feels great,” said Premium Nissan salesperson Corey Dalrymple. “Everybody needs a helping hand,” Dalrymple said. “Sometimes people think of other people (in need) as someone else,” he said. We’ve been through natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunami, storms, and hurricanes,” he said. “I think everybody needs to chip in,” he said.

The dealership is also happy to be serving the community.

“We’re proud of Nissan of making a donation of the truck to a worthy cause,” said Iannuzzi. “It shows Nissan committed to a green and worthy environment,” he said.

Habitat for Humanity of Westchester was one of four Habitat branches throughout the country to receive the award. Organizations also received a donated truck from Nissan. Others involved include Boston, Seattle, Portland, and the greater New Hampshire area.

“It’s really a great blessing that will help with our green construction,” said Killoran. “We’re proud of it because we will be able to be sustainable builders,” he said.

Killoran said the truck will be used for picking up building supplies for various building projects the organization does throughout the year, and picking up furniture from residences.

“We’re always moving supplies,” he said. “We’re builders seven days a week.”
