WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Westchester received $2.7 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency funding to cover some of the costs of Superstorm Sandy cleanup, Rep. Nita Lowey (D- Westchester/Rockland) announced Wednesday.

Congress passed the Relief Appropriations Act in January to help with the cost of debris removal and other cleanup costs for towns, counties and states hits by Sandy.

"Westchester residents and businesses, as well as our governments, were hit hard by Superstorm Sandy," County Executive Rob Astorino said in a statement. "This federal aid is important and is a good first step as we continue to repair the extensive damage."

More than 300,000 homes lost power during the October storm, and the county suffered $42 million in property damages. This includes $12 million in damages to Rye Playand.

The damage to Rye Playland caused by Superstorm Sandy won't be fixed by the time the park is scheduled to open on May 11. The main boardwalk and seawall were heavily damaged in the storm, and repair work has not begun due to legal issues with the company it awarded the contract.
