The fourth annual Sound Shore St. Patrick's Day Parade begins at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 22 near Mamaroneck Avenue School, about midway between Interstate 95 and the Mamaroneck Train Station.

Bag pipers, Irish step dancers, nine marching bands, police and fire departments, high school sports teams and more than 40 local and regional organizations from Pelham to Port Chester will march down Mamaroneck Avenue. The parade concludes at Harbor Island Park.

"The Sound Shore St. Patrick's Day parade is designed to be a fun, family-friendly event,'' said Kevin O'Shea, parade committee co-chairman. "After the terrible winter we have had, I hope everyone will want to get outdoors and enjoy the parade."

The parade, sponsored by Henegan Construction, attracts thousands of spectators from Mamaroneck, Larchmont, Harrison, Rye, New Rochelle and other nearby communities.

Bob McCooey Jr. is this year's parade grand marshal. Born at New Rochelle Hospital, McCooey is a lifelong Westchester resident and business leader. He attended Resurrection Grammar School and Iona Preparatory School before graduating from Holy Cross College. McCooey and his wife, Kristina, have six children.

He's the son of the late Robert H. McCooey and Mary Catherine (Joyce) McCooey and the grandson of John and Catherine Joyce, who founded Joyce Beverages in New Rochelle.

Professionally, McCooey co-founded The Griswold Company in 1988 and served as its chief executive officer until December 2006.

In 2006, McCooey joined NASDAQ as a senior vice president, heading up NASDAQ's Capital Markets efforts. During an eight-year period, he was responsible for New Listings (IPO) business, International Corporate Client business and is currently responsible for Global Relationship Management within NASDAQ's Corporate Client Group. In this role, he has traveled to Ireland to work with emerging growth companies and promote the benefits of the U.S. Capital Markets to companies looking to grow their footprint beyond Ireland. McCooey also has worked with Enterprise Ireland on its U.S. initiatives and has assisted their portfolio of Irish companies.

The Sound Shore Parade celebrates Irish culture and heritage and offers two $2,500 college scholarships to local high school seniors.
