Slick Conditions Result In Numerous Accidents In Westchester

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Bands of heavy snow moving through the area resulted in slick driving conditions throughout the area on Friday morning.

A stretch of the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway was closed in Yonkers following a 7 a.m. accident. The closure is between Mclean Avenue (Exit 3) and Rumse Road (Exit 4A).

A multi-vehicle accident was reported on the Sprain Brook Parkway northbound north of I-287 at 7:45 a.m.

A 7:40 a.m. accident resulted in stop-and-go traffic on the southbound Hutchinson River Parkway between Ridge Street (Exit 29) and Lincoln Avenue (Exit 28). 

An accident blocked the left lane on the southbound Taconic State Parkway between Route 6 and FDR State Park in Yorktown, creating heavy delays. The accident was reported at 7 a.m.

A crash on the northbound Bronx River Parkway between Crane Road (Exit 12) and Fenimore Road (Exit 15) resulted in stop-and-go conditions. It was reported at 7:35 a.m.

An accident reported at 6:55 a.m. blocked the right lane of the northbound Sprain Brook Parkway between Route 100B and the Cross Westchester Express (U-287), resulting in stop-and-go traffic.

There are also slippery conditions on the roadway around the Tappan Zee Bridge span.

Up to 2 inches of accumulation is possible in some spots from the quick moving system, with most areas seeing a dusting to an inch.

Several school districts in Northern Westchester and Putnam are now closed for the day  because of the wintry weather after earlier announcing delayed starts.
