NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Operations went well for the New Rochelle Fire Department during this past weekends snowstorm, despite the department being down to 152 firefighters from 164 due to retirements.
We coped with it, said Chief Louis DiMeglio, who called in off-duty personnel to lend a hand.
The department is always ready to open its emergency operation center in any weather-related event or other occurrence where immediate assistance is needed, officials said.
The center was in full operation Saturday night from 7 p.m. to midnight and firefighters received and responded to 60 calls.
New Rochelle has made significant progress to return the City to normal working conditions.
"Our crews have opened all roads except for Pintard Avenue and Wood Hollow Lane, both of which should be open tonight," New Rochelle Department of Public Works Commissioner Alex Tergis said Tuesday afternoon.
Con Edison expected to have 400 customers restored Tuesday evening, dropping the number of outages below 1,000. Crews will continue to work clearing storm debris in the coming days.
