Police received a call at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 from a homeowner on School Street in Armonk saying that there was a bear in the roadway that retreated into the woods. An hour later, a second call was made, from a Carpenter Way resident reporting that there was a bear in his backyard.

It's unclear if it was the same bear spotted earlier, or two separate bears.

School Street is located on the north end of Wampus Park. Carpenter Way is about two miles west of School Street.

The New York State Department of Environmental Control warns that bears should never be approached, surrounded or cornered, as they will aggressively defend themselves if they feel threatened. One should never run from a bear either, they should speak calmly in a loud voice, slowly backing away and leaving the area.
