NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The snow and sleet that led to power outages and poor driving conditions in Westchester Wednesday night have been mostly cleared and have not caused any major problems in New Rochelle.

As of 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Con Edison was reporting  27 power outages in New Rochelle, with 195 people affected. This was down from 62 earlier in the morning. THe utility expects power to be restored by midnight Thursday.

Alexander Turgis, New Rochelle Commissioner of Public Works, said that he has not received any reports about power losses or other serious damage in the area.

“Areas that are typically prone to flooding, we didn’t get any reports on that either from our sewers and drains department,” he said.

New Rochelle Police Sgt. Kyle Wilson said that there have been no storm-related issues for vehicles, either.

“We have some wires down and trees down and stuff like that, but no accidents due to the weather.”

Turgis said the city was ready.

“Of course last night it got icy, but we had crews out to salt the hills and major thoroughfares and any problem spots,” Turgis said. “At this point there are no problems with the roads. All the snow melted, and now we’re getting ready and waiting to see what happens this Saturday.”
