NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- As part of the New Rochelle Library's "Author Talk" series, writer Jane Allen Petrick will discuss her new book about Norman Rockwell on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m.

"Hidden in Plain Sight: The Other People in Norman Rockwell’s America," explores the misconception that all of his subjects were Caucasian.

As early as 1936, Rockwell was portraying people of color with empathy and a dignity often denied them at the time, according to Petrick. She tells the stories of these Asians, Africans, and American Indians who sat for Rockwell.

These models are present throughout his illustrations, and some of them may have been New Rochelle residents, since he worked and lived there from 1913 to 1939.

She will also discuss how the book came about, her research and the many interviews she conducted with Rockwell's former models.

The free presentation will be followed by a reception and book signing. The library is at One Library Plaza in New Rochelle.
