NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – that Execution Lighthouse can be seen from the shores of New Rochelle?

The land’s lighthouse was built in the 1800's, and is now in Sands Point, N.Y. in the center of Long Island Sound.

There is a myth that the British Army executed people on the rock during the revolutionary war.

New Rochelle Public Library Community Relations Coordinator Barbara Davis said that ships and steamboats used to sink as a result of the rocky and shallow waters.

Ships and steamboats used the lighthouse as a guide when navigating through the area.
