NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Did you know that former New Rochelle resident Jacob Pincus Perelmuth became Jan Peerce, one of the world's most renowned singers?

Perelmuth lived in New Rochelle for more than 44 years on Beechmont Drive, which overlooks Beechmont Lake. The Perelmuths were active at Beth El Synagogue and his three children attended New Rochelle Public Schools.

Going by the name Pinky Pearl, the singer performed at Jewish weddings in the city. He also played the part of Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof at the age of 67.
