NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Motorists in New Rochelle need to use other routes to access the transit center garage and train station for the next few weeks.

The North Avenue entrance is closed until Oct. 10 so work can continue on the North Avenue Bridge utility relocation project.

Drivers traveling from the south should use Memorial Highway and then take Division Street to Station Plaza North, the city said.

Signs are posted directing drivers through this area. A flagger also directs traffic.

Drivers traveling from the north should use Lockwood Avenue or Lincoln Avenue to Memorial Highway then take Division to Station Plaza North, the city said.

Residents can see details of the project and download maps of the alternative routes on the city's website.

The project is to relocate electric, cable, telephone, water, fiber optic and natural gas lines from the North Avenue Bridge to a parallel span that was constructed in 2010. Work on the utility lines is expected to be completed by May depending on conditions.

Work to tear down and replace the bridge is scheduled to begin in 2015.
