New Rochelle Students Volunteer During Vacation

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Five New Rochelle High School students are volunteering their time off from classes this week to help beautify Habitat for Humanity of Westchester headquarters and build homes throughout the area.

“We were looking for a soup kitchen then we met and talked to Jim who inspired us by informing us about the things that Habitat does besides restoring homes and building communities,” said New Rochelle High School junior and National Honor Society member Berenice Velasquez.

Other New Rochelle High School National Honor Society members are also assisting, not only to give their time to a worthy cause, but also to earn up to 20 hours of community service by the end of the week to fulfill chapter society requirements.

“Kids might be at home sleeping on the couch, instead there are a lot of habitat heroes volunteering in the restore and building homes this week," said Habiatat for Humanity of Westchester Executive Director Jim Killoran.
