New Rochelle Shocked by Train Station Shooting

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Residents said they were shocked by Wednesday morning’s shooting near Station Plaza in the downtown section of New Rochelle.

Manhattan resident Alfredo Monegro, 61, of Manhattan, shot his daughter, Miosotis Monegro, 34, of New Rochelle, in the neck early Wednesday morning near the New Rochelle train station then turned the gun on himself and took his own life, police said.

Miosotis Monegro was taken to Sound Shore Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition with a bullet wound to the neck. She was transferred to Westchester Medical Center later in the day. Her condition was unavailable Wednesday evening.

Pat Sinatra, says she keeps a watchful eye on the daily happenings in the area. She said the shooting was another example of the crime in the area and that “nothing good” happens there.

“There’s a lot of stuff going on in the building,” Sinatra said of robberies she has heard about.

The shooting took place at 7:55 a.m. Wednesday. Police responded to reports of shots fired and found the two victims lying on the ground on the sidewalk at the southeast corner of Station Plaza and Memorial Highway.
