NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. A New Rochelle High School librarian was accused Wednesday of sending explicitly sexual content to a 16-year-old student at the school, said New Rochelle Detective Capt. Joseph Schaller. Her arrest comes on the heels of a New Rochelle school district electrician being arraigned May 24 on accusations of sending lewd material to an undercover investigator posing as a 15-year-old girl in a chat room.
The librarian, Marisa Anton, 33, of 34 Winchester Ave., Yonkers, was arrested about 3 p.m. at the residence of the boy to whom she had been sending explicit messages and photographs, Schaller said. Anton was there in an apparent attempt to accomplish a sexual encounter," police said. She was charged with first-degree disseminating indecent material to minors, a class D felony.
The boy, whose identity was not released, and the librarian were apparently flirting with one another, Schaller said, describing their relationship as a personal, casual one.
They engage in conversations, one thing led to another, and they started communicating by email and text messaging, Schaller said.
The student came to police headquarters Sunday and told police that for the past several months Anton had used photographic images and verbal communications of explicitly sexual content in an effort to invite him to engage in sexual contact, said Schaller, who called the incident tragic and incomprehensible. He added that he is not aware of any sexual contact between the two.
The New Rochelle City School District suspended Anton, who started working in the district September 2008, until further notice. A joint statement released by the School district and the high school said Anton had no prior criminal record and passed all background checks in compliance with the New York State Law.
As with all matters concerning our students, we take these allegations very seriously and are deeply concerned about the nature of the charges that have been made against one of our employees, the statement said. The district will, of course, continue to give full cooperation to law enforcement authorities.
Anton is currently in custody. Schaller was unsure if she had been arraigned.
Patrick Clark, the electrician who was arraigned May 24, was charged with one count of first-degree attempted disseminating indecent material to minors, a felony.
