According to the National Weather Service, there will be “blizzard like conditions” beginning in New Rochelle on Monday afternoon, continuing through Tuesday night. As many as 16 inches of snow may fall overnight, with an additional seven to 11 inches expected on Tuesday.
In advance of the storm, New Rochelle officials have suspended garbage and recycling pickup on Tuesday and Wednesday, and have warned residents to move cars off the street, and if necessary, to the New Roc City parking garage so that DPW crews can do their job and clean up the streets.
“Move parked cars off the street and from open lots,” Mayor Noam Bramson warned. “On snow emergency routes, cars will be towed. If you don’t have other options, parking will be free in the New Roc City garage on level one through four until noon on Wednesday.”
With blustery winds and gusts reaching 35 mph, there is a risk that there will be downed trees and power lines. Lost power can be reported to Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED. Emergency services should only be utilized for emergencies involving health, safety or life.
“City crews will be working around the clock, but many roads, especially secondary and tertiary roads, may be impassable for a long time,” Bramson added. “Stay home, and avoid unnecessary traffic. (Don’t forget) to check in on elderly, or infirm neighbors.”
