New Rochelle Public Library Updates Community On Reconstruction

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The New Rochelle Public Library reflected recently on the "Winter of the Flood" and the reconstruction updates the library had to face.

Following the burst pipe, water levels rose to the height of
the stage. The beach ball floated out of the preschool fun and fitness equipment closet.

The flood, which was the result of a burst pipe on the coldest night of the year, necessitated new floors in the meeting room and the theater’s stage, the replacement of walls, painting of the meeting room and the theater, and the reupholstering of theater chairs, according to a press release from the library.

No materials were damaged, the Steinway piano was unscathed and the insurance company responded with great efficiency and the disaster clean-up company and the restoration firm did great work, very quickly, according to the press release.

Few programs had to be canceled, as they were able to hold February vacation programs, lunchtime yoga, and a few concerts at Recologie, just down the street, the release said

The stalwart AARP tax volunteers moved back into the community gallery, and additional programs and services were relocated within the building, according to the release, and within just three weeks, the library was fully back-in business.
