The proposed 2015-16 library budget is $5,240,408, which is about 4.35 percent higher than the 2014-15 budget of $4,878,500, according to a press release.

There is also a proposed bond referendum, which would authorize officials to replace the library’s cooling system at a cost of no more than $500,000.

The cooling system for the 1978 building needs essential components replaced.

“It is paramount for the library to continue serving the public without closures due to lack of air conditioning,” library officials said in a press release.

The library budget and bond proposal, along with three seats on the library’s Board of Trustees and two seats on the New Rochelle Board of Education, will be focal points of an election on May 19.

With the help of the League of Women Voters, the school board candidates forum will be at the library at 5:30 p.m., May 7.

The forum for candidates for the library’s Board of Trustees will be at 6:45 p.m.

The public hearing for the proposed budget and bond referendum will start at 7 p.m.

The regularly scheduled May meeting of the library’s Board of Trustees will begin at 7:30 p.m.

All four gatherings will be at the New Rochelle Public Library’s Ossie Davis Theater, 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle.

Copies of the proposed budget and bond referendum are available at the library’s administrative office.

The May 19 election will be held from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. at the city’s school polling locations.

For information about polling locations or other needs such as absentee ballots, visit the City School District of New Rochelle’s website or call 914-576-4219.
