Rather than raking, bagging or transporting fall leaves off site, the City of New Rochelle’s new “Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em” mulch-mowing campaign is a sustainable alternative that benefits lawns and gardens.

Professional landscapers will give live mulching demonstrations on the following dates:

Ward Acres on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m.

College of New Rochelle on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 4 p.m.

Stephenson Park on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m.

Huguenot Park (NRHS) on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m.

D’Onofrio Park on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.

Feeney Park on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m.

Stratton Road Fire House on Monday, Oct. 6 at 6.p.m.

In addition to mulch mowing property owners have two options for leaf pickup: bag/can or transport.

Bag/can: The city will provide weekly pickup of loose leaves in biodegradable paper bags and open containers weighing less than 75 lbs. Materials must be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on Mondays in the North End and Wednesdays in the South End for pickup throughout the week. Actual pickup day may vary due to weather.

The revised Fall Leaf Collection begins Oct. 14. No loose leaves should be left at the curb. All leaves need to be placed in biodegradable bags and/or open containers for pickup.

Transport: Licensed landscapers and gardeners may still dispose of leaves at the City’s Yard Waste Transfer Site at 85 Beechwood Ave. Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Vouchers can be purchased from the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 515 North Ave., Monday–Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Additional information is available on the city’s website here or by calling 914-740-6145.
