The City Council has entered into a lease agreement with Nissan that will bring four completely electric, zero emission Leaf models into the municipal fleet. In addition, Nissan is also installing an electric charging station at the transit center will can be used by the public.

For several months, members in the city’s Department of Development have been contacting major vehicle manufacturers – including Chevrolet, Toyota and Tesla – to “discuss the possibility of becoming the zero-emission, sustainable and electric New Rochelle vehicle.”

When they arrive, the new environmentally friendly vehicles will be clearly identifiable and will highlight the sustainable partnership between Nissan and New Rochelle. To encourage the public to go green, there will also be five designated parking lots for five zero-emission vehicles in two city garages.

“This single step won’t change the world, of course, but it is one more way that the city can set a good example, while also providing the infrastructure that makes it easier for residents to embrace sustainable practices.
