NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. The New Rochelle Fire Department responded to a fire in a two-story four family home on DeWitt Place at 2:40 a.m. early Tuesday morning. Fire Chief Louis DiMeglio said the department is still investigating the cause of the fire, though it appears accidental.
The kitchens on each floor suffered interior damage while the rest of the house sustained smoke and water damage, according DiMeglio. He said the department was able to sustain the fire in under 20 minutes and extinguish it in an hour.
All 11 residents were not able to return to the home and some were helped by the Red Cross while others were taken in by relatives, DiMeglio said.
