NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Seniors looking to stretch their food budgets this summer and fall may be entitled to discount farmers' market coupons, the city said.

Individuals must be 60 years of age or older, and have a monthly income of at or below $1,722 for one person, $2,333 for a couple, or currently be receiving or eligible to receive food stamps, public assistance or Section 8 housing, the city said.

The checkbook-style coupons will be distributed while supplies last beginning Thursday at the Hugh Doyle Senior Center, 94 Davis Avenue in New Rochelle, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Seniors must show proof of age and New Rochelle residency, and applicants must come in person to sign an affidavit form. One set of coupons is allowed per qualifying household.

The coupons are valid at the New Rochelle Farmers' Market, located at the Library Green every Friday through the summer and fall until Nov. 16, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or until vendors sell out. The market features a wide variety of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and specialty foods.
