Shields joined 149 other educators from July 13-18 for the DEN Summer Institute (DENSI) , which included seminars and workshops designed for educators learning to use the latest technologies in digital learning environments.

The institute provided an opportunity for participating educators to share resources, ideas and strategies for introducing digital resources into their classrooms.

“I am honored to have been selected to participate in the 2014 DENSI. This experience has allowed me to learn from and connect with other enthusiastic educators who share a passion for incorporating digital resources in our students’ education,” said Shields.

“I am excited to inform my colleagues in New Rochelle School District about these new, creative strategies and techniques for advancing student achievement, and to apply them in my classroom for the 2014-2015 school year.”

The DEN Summer Institute is exclusive to educators recognized by Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, as STAR Discovery Educators.

“Jeannine’s selection for the DENSI demonstrates her outstanding leadership and commitment to using the most innovative methods to enhance students’ learning and classroom experiences,” said Lance Rougeux, vice president of learning communities and instructional implementation for Discovery Education.

Shields returns to William B. Ward Elementary this school year with numerous multimedia projects and new teaching techniques to incorporate digital resources into her curriculum.
