New Rochelle ... Did You Know?

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Did you know that cartoonist Alex Raymond was born in New Rochelle on Oct. 2, 1909?

Raymond attended New Rochelle High School. He also attended Iona Preparatory School on an athletic scholarship.

Raymond is best known for creating the Flash Gordon science fiction comic strip in 1934.

He married his hometown sweetheart, Helen Williams, and they had five children.

In 1956, Raymond died at the age of 46 in an automobile accident.

This "Did You Know" came from the New Rochelle Walk of Fame.
