New Rochelle Celebrates Relationship With France

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The City Council honored members of "France – New Rochelle" at its meeting Tuesday night for continuing a century-old relationship between New Rochelle and its French sister city.

In October, members of the association visited  La Rochelle, New Rochelle's sister city in France. The visit coincided with the 100th anniversary of when New Rochelle gifted a statue to La Rochelle in 1911.

“I think everyone can appreciate knowing the history of a place,” said New Rochelle Noam Bramson.

The delegation from New Rochelle, headed by former Council member Marianne Sussman, visited La Rochelle to celebrate the gift. The visit also included a rededication of the monument as well as a parade, art contest, plaque dedication to American soldiers stationed in La Rochelle after World War II and community activities organized by the City of La Rochelle.
