NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. On Monday, Westchester County Department of Health Senior Sanitarian Matt Smith, New Rochelle Building Department Inspector Joe Guglielmo and concerned citizens met at the dumpsters behind The Golden Horseshoe Shopping Center property. The meeting was an effort to ensure that the area is kept up to par until dumpster equipment can renovated.
Our concern is the traffic and the dumpsters, said resident Frehinot Worku. Were paying high taxes to live here.
The dumpsters are on track to be renovated with enclosures and screens as part of a $900,000 plan that is still in the works.
The area was clean at the time of the Monday afternoon meeting. We want to maintain the property, said another resident Cindy Inman.
Landlords Manual and Lee Fine applied to the New Rochelle Board of Appeals for a variance to add another building as part of an overall renovation of the property.
Guglielmo says he saw violations in the area in September, followed by a second visit when he again found it in unsanitary condition.
This is pretty improved compared to the last time, Guglielmo said Monday.
Lee says that the area is kept up well for the most part. Weve had a couple violations before September, but none since then, she said.
The case will be brought before the New Rochelle Planning Board at its next meeting Jan. 31, in City Hall Annex Room B1 or B2, to review the owners application.
