Raheem Jones, 26, was charged Wednesday, with felony possession of a gun, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, Bharara said.

Police said a passenger in an SUV fired into another vehicle near the New Rochelle Day Nursery on the city’s busy Clinton Avenue around 12:40 p.m., wounding the unidentified victim three times.

The victim, who was hit in the left shoulder and arm, was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to a report on lohud.com.

The black BMW sped off, but was spotted a short time later traveling south on the Saw Mill River Parkway by officers from the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, according to lohud. When police tried to pull the SUV over, the driver sped off, Bharara said.

Police chased the suspects and, at some point, the SUV driver slowed down on Coyle Place, and Jones, who was wearing a backpack, jumped out and ran, police said.

Officers chased down the suspect, who, they said, threw the backpack away as he fled.

A .38-caliber revolver was discovered inside, police and Bharara said.

According to a report in lohud, Jones hurt his leg during the chase and was treated for his injury at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Bharara praised the outstanding investigative work of the FBI, the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, the Mount Vernon Police Department, and the New Rochelle Police Department.

This case is being handled by the Office’s White Plains Division. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anden Chow and Sarah Krissoff are in charge of the prosecution, Bharara said.
