Motorcycle Dealership Has History in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., New Rochelle resident and Wheel Sport Center Yamaha owner Frank Russo Jr. has used his motorcycling experience and expertise to help the city with its motorcycle needs since 1961.

Russo himself however has been in the motorcycle sales business since the late 1950's when he had a shop of his own on Sandford Boulevard in Mount Vernon called Motorcycle Unlimited.

His interest in motorcycling dates back to his participation in American Motorcycle Association races on a variety of different types of bikes throughout New York and Connecticut.

He has used this knowledge and memories as a racer to help shape the tastes of his wide variety of customers ever since.

Russo has shared his passion with his childre and both son Frank Russo III, and daughter Nancy Ann work in the business's 339 Huguenot location.

"(It's) one of the oldest dealerships that is still family-owned," said Frank Russo III.

Russo had the original Wheel Sport Center location at 177 Huguenot St. before moving it to its present location at 339 Huguenot in order to offer more variety and choice to customers.

While a family might not like each other at times, it is not the case with the Russo's who have a sincere passion for the sport and business. “We like what we do,” the elder Russo said.
