McDuffie, 27, was reported missing Aug. 19 after she failed to pick up her two children from their grandmother's house in Stamford, Conn. Her body was found a week later dumped in Seton Falls Park in the Bronx, just over the border from Mount Vernon.

Her boyfriend, Jason Meyer of New Rochelle told Mount Vernon police he killed McDuffie at her home and where they could find her body. He faces second-degree murder charges in her strangulation death.

Friends and family were shocked by her death and the fact that she was a victim of domestic violence.

"Ashley was a living testimony to what good is and was a phenomenal young woman," said close friend Nicole DiLoria. " When it comes to domestic violence, we want to be about prevention. Domestic violence needs to come to the forefront and people need to stand together to prevent it from happening."

During the memorial service, Denair Huggin, author of "Survivor, Advocate," will speak about domestic violence and the importance of reporting the crime.

The event will be held at the Five Town Community Center, 270 Lawrence Ave., at 6 p.m. Admission is free, donations will be accepted on behalf of McDuffie's two children.
