Man Charged in Two New Rochelle Car Break-Ins

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Keita Speed was was charged Wednesday in two car break-ins that occurred March 25 at a Cedar Street office building, police Capt. Joseph Schaller said.

Speed took clothing and change from a 2008 Nissan after breaking one of its windows, Schaller said. The rear passenger-side window of a 2010 Volkswagen also was broken. Nothing was taken from that vehicle.

An employee of the building saw the trunk of her car open and noticed a man standing near it, Schaller said. The man got on a bicycle and left after being confronted by the woman, Schaller said.

Speed was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and petty larceny, both misdemeanors.

The following items also were reported by New Rochelle police:

Burglary: A $500 iPad and a wallet with miscellaneous papers were reported missing after a home burglary between 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7:20 a.m. Thursday. The 43-year-old resident woke up to find the kitchen door leading to the outside of the residence open and with a broken handle. A kitchen window separate from the door was also open.

Theft From Car: A GPS was taken from a 53-year-old New Rochelle resident’s 2003 vehicle parked in a parking garage at 40 Memorial Highway between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The passenger-side window was broken.
