"Today is a fantastic start to what will be a fantastic celebration of Larchmont's 125th birthday,'' said Mayor Anne McAndrews. "This is so pleasant to have a cheerful group in this room."

In January, village officials detailed plans for a yearlong celebration of Larchmont's 125th anniversary of incorporation -- which is officially on Sept. 22, 2016.

The winning logo was designed by Sue Girardi-Sweeney, a village resident and member of the Larchmont Committee on the Arts. The New Rochelle native is a certified art teacher and substitute teacher best known for her colorful window paintings.

Dee van Eyck, chairwoman of Larchmont 125, said, "The winning logo really represents Larchmont's spirit."

She said children as young as seven entered the logo contest, and one of the four finalists, Emily Shen, is 15 years old. "It's got to look good on a cupcake,'' van Eyck joked.

Quasquicentennial organizers already have produced buttons, T-shirts, stickers and stationery featuring the tri-color logo depicting the west gazebo on the rocky shore of Manor Park overlooking Larchmont Sound. There is a second gazebo at Constitution Park next to Village Hall.

Palmer Davis, who helped judge the contest, said, "We saw a lot of really good ideas. It was tough to make the decision.

Davis said the village was looking for a logo that was memorable, "something with heart. It needed to tell Larchmont's story, give a sense of fun and ease. The way of life here is very delightful."

"Larchmont 125 is a celebration about the life and times of the residens who have made this village such a special place,'' said Peter Fanelli, a village trustee who led Thursday's news conference at Village Hall.
