"I wouldn't be surprised if we're sitting here a week from today talking about an attack over the weekend in the United States," Former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell told CBS News. "That's how serious this is."
Morell cited the fact that ISIS has managed to align itself with a large number of Americans, mainly through social media, and that 50 people have been arrested in the U.S. in the last year for being radicalized by ISIS.
The FBI, Department of Homeland Security and National Counterterrorism Center have said there are no known plots leading into the holiday weekend, but issued a general warning and said the threat of a terrorist attack is at its highest level in years in a joint intelligence bulletin to law enforcement across the nation.
