Volunteers painted railings, re-painted a pavilion and re-built a sun-shelter near the children’s playground during their day of work that saved the city more than $15,000, New Rochelle Parks and Recreation commissioner Bill Zimmermann said.

Zimmermann said the city was happy to have been selected for the work. He said he was also glad to see progress was being made despite the rainy weather canceling the painting of park benches.

“We’re making some headway,” said Zimmermann.

New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson was also on hand for the project.

“This is a great gift to the citizens of New Rochelle,” said Bramson.

Heineken USA CEO Dolf van den Brink said his company’s service days allow employees to do their part in the community.

“This is our opportunity to try to give back to the community,” he said.
