Greenburgh Supervisor Urges State To Complete Central Avenue Sidewalks

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner is renewing his efforts to urge state officials to complete the Central Avenue sidewalks, which would impact White Plains, Hartsdale, Edgemont and Yonkers.

Feiner recently met with members of the Hartsdale Park Civic Association to discuss the matter, he said in an email to the Daily Voice.

About two years ago, state officials built sidewalks on some parts of Central Avenue.

However, not all sections were filled, which makes walking or bicycling on Central Avenue “extremely dangerous,” Feiner said.

The supervisor asked the Greenburgh Police Department to compile relevant accident statistics.

Between 2010 and 2014, there were 44 accidents involving cars and pedestrians along Central Avenue in Greenburgh, according to Feiner. There were also two accidents involving Central Avenue bicyclists and motor vehicles.

"I've been writing and updating our legislators and the state regularly,” Feiner said.

"Let's not wait for a death to happen.”

Arshia Ghodsi, of Dobbs Ferry, one of Feiner’s student interns, has also started an online petition. The petition recently had over 200 signatures, and calls for state officials to “fill in the gaps and have a continuous sidewalk from White Plains to Greenburgh to Yonkers.”
