Four Remain Homeless Following New Rochelle Fire

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – A New Rochelle firefighter is on the mend, and four residents remain homeless after a fire on Thursday morning, May 1, heavily damaged a multi-family home.

According to officials, firefighters responded to the New Rochelle home on Ronalds Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. While helping knock down flames, which left the right side of the house damaged, a firefighter suffered a “not major” injury, which has been treated.

Both families were able to evacuate the home without assistance. Only the firefighter suffered any injuries. The bulk of the damage was done to the interior of the residence, with the exterior remaining fairly intact. It is currently unknown whether the home will be habitable again, but cleanup crews were hopeful on Thursday afternoon.

According to officials with the Red Cross, the four displaced adults stayed with family and friends overnight while contemplating a permanent plan. The Red Cross is providing assistance and support to the victims while navigating them through the tricky insurance process.
