Four File for Upcoming New Rochelle School Election

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Two incumbent members of the New Rochelle Board of Education and two members of the New Rochelle Public Library Board of Trustees have submitted petitions to run uncontested for reelection.

Incumbent school board member Chrisanne Petrone, who currently serves as president, and board member David Lacher have both turned in the required petitions with 100 signatures to run.

Current New Rochelle Public Library Trustees, Haina Just-Michael and Bernardo Nunez have each submitted 101 signatures.  At least 25 signatures from qualified and registered voters are needed for a candidate to be eligible to run, however, if 2 percent of the number of people who voted in last year's election, 101, is higher, then that number is used.

Nunez was appointed as a trustee in August to fill the position vacated by Thomas Leghorn. Just-Michael is seeking her second term since being elected in 2007.

Petrone is seeking her second five-year term on the school board. She was first elected in 2007. Lacher is seeking his fifth term after his fourth finishes in June.

The person with most votes in the library trustee election will be elected to a five-year term. The candidate with the second highest number of votes will receive a two-year term.

The public election is set for May 15.
