NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - While there is no Memorial Day parade in town this year, New Rochelle pays tribute to the nation's fallen servicemen and women with a ceremony 1 p.m. Saturday at Glen Island Park put on by the United Veterans Memorial & Patriotic Association of New Rochelle.
The guest speaker this year is the inspector general of the Marine Corps, Major General Juan Ayala.
The service will also honor the New Rochelle Fire and Police departments, as well as EMS first responders who have fallen in the line of duty.
The events continue with entertainment throughout the day unti 8 p.m. with Blood Sweat and Tears will perform at 6 p.m. Food will be provided by AJ's Burgers, Pronto Pizza and the Veterans Association. There will also be arts and crafts, face painting, a magician and other activities.
There will also be a ceremony at 9 a.m. sunday at Beechwood Cemetery, and a wreath-laying ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27 at Memorial Plaza.
