Employees Protest At Sound Shore Medical Center

UPDATE 3:30 p.m. Members of Healthcare Workers East 1199, are protesting the 80 full-time positions between Mount Vernon Hospital and Sound Shore Medical Center that will be eliminated to cover costs as a result of the changing healthcare environment, according to information from Sound Shore Medical Center. This involves Medicare, and Medicaid.

The downsizing is at all levels and includes physicians, nurses, management and support personnel. In restructuring, close attention was given to maintaining high-quality patient care, which has been accomplished, according to the medical center.

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – A protest is taking place at Sound Shore Medical Center, New Rochelle Police Department Lt. Chris Hearle said.

Employees can be seen protesting in one section on the rear, right side of the building across the street from the visitor parking lot.

New Rochelle Police are monitoring the situation and have it under control.

A police bus is across the street from the scene. Department staff stand near the parking lot in uniform facing the crowd.
