SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Eight years ago, when Mamaroneck kindergartener Evan Greenberg approached his parents about building a hot chocolate stand for “people who are cold,” nobody expected that he was starting an annual tradition that would bring the entire community together.

Each year since 2006, Evan, and now his younger brother Joshua, have sacrificed a weekend in the winter to sell hot chocolate and host raffles to raise money for various charities that are close to the boys 'heart.

In the past three years, the pair has been responsible for more than $10,000 that was raised and donated to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

The event has grown from meager roots, from the Greenbergs' garage to All Good Things, in the Golden Horseshoe Shopping Center on Wilmot Road, where the sale has been held each of the last three years.

Since its inception, the sale has gradually grown each year, and has caught the attention of several notable sponsors. Initially, Evan would sell hot cocoa, brownies and other baked goods, but since then, donations have come in from each of the major local sports teams, while the Chocolations in Mamaroneck donates cocoa.

This year’s event will be held over the weekend of Feb. 8, though times have yet to be determined.
