Kaywhan Hardee, of New Rochelle, was arrested Thursday after New Rochelle police found the dog, named Bobo, in his van, which he used for scrap metal. Police took him to the New Rochelle Humane Society, where it was determined he was in poor physical condition.

"The animal would surely have died had he not been rescued when he was," the veterinarian who treated Bobo said.

The veterinarian estimated the dog had been living in the van for three months. Bobo is still at the New Rochelle Humane Society and has gained six pounds in six days, Lungaro said.

Anyone who wishes to report animal cruelty or neglect can call the SPCA of Westchester’s HLE Division at 914- 941-7797. All calls are confidential.

The SPCA of Westchester, Inc. is a no-kill, non profit animal shelter in Briarcliff Manor and is the only organization in Westchester County that is mandated by the state to enforce its animal cruelty laws.
