DiFiore was sworn in this week at her new post. Her term runs until next year, reported lohud.

The governor can either appoint someone to fill the county spot, or he can leave it open until a special election is held November, the lohud story said.

Although as governor, Cuomo has the right to make such appointments, he has declined to in the past, the lohud story said.
