As part of the elaborate Crane Road Bridge Project, crews resumed demolition on Monday, Nov. 17, and it is expected to last up to a month, with a short hiatus around the Thanksgiving holiday.
Some of the demolition will be completed during the daytime, to minimize the inconvenience to local residentss, but due to Metro-North safety requirements, much of the work must be done at night when there are no trains running, typically between 2 and 5 a.m. It is expected that there will also be some additional work done at night on the weekends.
According to officials working on the project, the first few days of demolition are set to be the loudest, “as concrete encasement is removed from the south fascia girder.” After the initial two or three nights, the noise, particularly at night, is expected to slowly abate.
Once the concrete encasement is eliminated, concrete stringers and the concrete bridge deck are scheduled for demolition. The last item to be removed will be the middle abatement, just west of the railroad tracks.
