Officials confirmed that at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning, an oil truck backing up to make a delivery to a college-owned property on Pryer Terrace began spilling hundreds of gallons of oil onto the roadway, prompting an emergency cleanup response.
Crews from Iona utilized speedy dry, hoses, hazmat pads and dug trenches in an effort to absorb the oil, which spilled when one of three compartments on the oil truck broke, prompting the leak. According to officials, no oil contaminated the water and Iona’s campus was unaffected by the spill.
